Hydrogels swelling in water and Pb(II)-aqueous solutions is discussed. Different monomeric ratios show a significant effect on swelling of hydrogels.
Presence of Pb(II) ions in aqueous solutions decrease the degree of swelling of hydrogels. Pb(II) ions coordinate with acrylic (C-OH) and sulfonic acid (SO3-) functional groups of the polymeric chains.
